Abstract: This Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) is an evaluation of the potential environmental impacts of the proposed extension of MPL Terminal and Local Port at Hulhumale’, Kaafu Atoll, Maldives. The project is proposed by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL). This report attempts to fulfill requirements specified in the Terms of Reference (ToR) agreed at the scoping meeting of this held at EPA on 29 May 2011 and attended by the consultant, proponent, representatives from EPA and other relevant stakeholders. In preparing the report consideration has been given to cover the environmental requirements that need to be covered by EIA regulations giving due consideration to the scale, location and usage of the project and its outputs. The Terms of Reference to the project was approved by EPA on 15 June 2011. A copy of ToR is given in Appendix 1. This IEE was based on findings of fieldwork undertaken on 23 June 2011 and subsequent surveys undertaken by the proponent. Information to assess the qualitative aspects of the existing environment and the survey of the trees were undertaken.
