dc.description Objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of type 2 diabetes among overweight and obese people in AA.Mathiveri. Methods: A cross-sectional study was done among the age group between 25 to 65 years of the residents of AA.Mthiveri was randomly drawn from health Centre registration file. Data were collected by pretested questionnaire. Overweight and obesity as well as DM2 have become two serious public health challenges in the world since years ago. This study conducted because of the increased number of overweight and obese people in AA.Mathiveri and yet no study has done on this community regarding on this topic. Mainly the questions were designed to identify the life style, genetic factor, community factor, and awareness of population on overweight and obesity. Moreover to identify what measures can be taken in order to reduce overweight and obesity and to detect is the level of overweight and obesity related to the diabetes. Major findings of the study is lack of physical activity and unhealthy diet among the community. Also the DM2 strongly related to overweight/obesity. Conducting more effective health education sessions would be helpful in order to prevent/ control the problem. en_US
