This review begins with a brief outline of PV usage in the Maldives followed by a discussion of PV systems in general with a special emphasis on grid-tied systems. Irradiation levels in the Maldives are then outlined. A short review of the components of grid-tied PV systems and their technical requirements are then presented. The review concludes briefly noting the findings of studies carried out to evaluate reliability, modes of failure, trends and recommendations for research in grid-tied PV systems.
