Abstract: This EIA report is prepared in accordance with Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2007 under the Environmental Protection and Preservation Act (Act No. 4/93). The purpose of this EIA is to fulfill the requirement of the Law and to conduct an assessment of possible impacts on ecological, biophysical and human environment arising from proposed harbour development project at Gan-Mukurimagu in Laamu Atoll, Maldives. The project is proposed by Ministry of Construction and Public Infrastructure, Maldives. The main construction activities of the proposed project involve development of a harbour and an entrance channel at western side of the island. The construction activities will be completed within six months from the start of the construction phase. The project cost is estimated as MRf16 million. The proposed harbour is 300ft long and 200ft wide. The harbour will be attached to the island and consisted of a front quay-wall made of precast concrete and breakwater made of imported rock boulders in the rear sides. A part of the entrance channel will be protected by breakwater made of rock boulders on both sides The main operation of the project will be boat operation to and from the village and harbouring boats. The boats will include medium size fishing boats and boats used for carrying consumer goods, boats carrying passengers to and from the village.
