Abstract: The paper focuses on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Maldives. It analyses the path of economic activity during the pandemic, via the developments in the forecasts of these economic indicators and the reasons for the better-than-expected recovery of the tourism industry. The paper was initially prepared and presented at the SAARC fnance Database Webinar on: “COVID-19 Pandemic in the SAARC Countries: Policy Responses and its Impact”, on June 22, 2021 and has been published at the SAARC fnance website. This paper is an updated version and includes the most recent developments.
